West Coast Road Trip

Hi there,

My vacation was already over. It turned out to be pretty intense. I was in and out almost everyday. I went to museums, restaurants, islands and beaches. It was quite a lot of activities. I also did a road trip along the west coast with my friends Steven and Roberto (Steven’s friend from Italy).

Day 1: We drove from Gothenburg up to Grabbestad. We arrived in the afternoon. After checking in at a hostel, we met my colleague-Frida and her partner-Oscar. They were kind enough to take us on their boat and went on a short trip around Grebbestad archipelago. We stopped on a small island to fika and bathed a bit. We were quite lucky that we didn’t catch any rain (just some drops) although there were big clouds nearby. 

Day 2: We went to see rock carvings around Vitlycke Museum in Tanum in the morning. Then we drove down to Fjällbacka and trekked around Kungsklyftan. The rock crevice was stunning and the view was amazing. It was a good sunny day. After that, we drove to Kungshamn to stay over the night at a hostel.

Day 3: We drove to Smögen to the famous colourful boathouses and ate brunch. Then we drove to Malmön to visit Pärlane strand which is one of the most voted beautiful beaches in Sweden. It was simply beautiful. Again, we were lucky with the weather. It was a sunny day but a bit too windy. Anyway, we bathed in the sea and stayed there for some time. Next, we drove down to Skärhamn in Tjörn. We checked in at a hotel then we drove back to Stenungsund to visit Steven’s friend and ate dinner there. Then, we went back to the hotel and stayed overnight.

Day 4, last day: We checked around Skärhamn for a bit. Then we drove to Kyrkesund to meet my old colleague/neighbours-Marie and Dan at their summer house. We had some fika then we walked to Skulptur i Pilane. It was a huge area of outdoor art exhibition. There were many sculptures and they were very cool, especially Anna, the huge elongated woman head at the top of the hill. Then we walked back to the house and drove back to Gothenburg. It was very kind of them to welcome us and took us a quick tour around Pilane. We arrived Gothenburg. My trip was over but Steven and Roberto continued to Stockholm. 

In the beginning, I thought it would rain everyday, but it turned out to be sunny most of the time. There were some windy days but it was still better than rainy. Overall, it was a good trip :D
