Midsummer 2025

Glad midsommar!

Midsummer this year I went to Gunnebo Slott with my friend-Johannes. There were so many people. We were lucky with the weather that it was sunny and not too warm. It was quite perfect weather actually. I didn’t make any flower wreath and dance around the pole this year, but it was all good. I only wanted to enjoy the vibes and that was enough for me :)

Then we came back to my apartment and I cooked steak with stinging nettle soup. I picked stinging nettle leaves around my neighbourhood by myself. I heard about this plant since I was a kid but never knew how it looked like. If I hadn’t started gardening, I wouldn’t have known what stinging nettle looked like. I did some research on the plant and learned that it could make good fertiliser and pesticide. I actually had nettle tea at home that I had been drinking for a year without knowing about the plant. I learned that the nettle soup was a thing. So I went foraging around my apartment and found some. The soup tasted like spinach soup but greener and more fragrant. Though it was quite late in the season because they started to flower already. Perhaps next year I would go out earlier in the spring.

It had been about 2 months since I started my balcony garden. All my plants seemed doing all well except basil and Thai basil that didn’t make it after a couple of weeks. The Thai basil seemed to survive and tried to come back at the moment, but it didn’t seem so promising that I could harvest any before autumn. Here I got a new pot of basil as my second attempt. This month was warmer and sunnier. I hoped they would survive this time.

End of last month I started to experiment making compost (eggshells, banana peels, coffee grounds, tea leaves, worm casting, and egg cartons). It required some time until ready to be used. Let’s see how it turns out in a month or two, and if I can fertilise my plants with my homemade compost!

Here are some new Lego Botanicals sets. My apartment was getting crowded now XD

Lastly, the bake of June was rhubarb cake! As it was the rhubarb season, it got so cheap. I had to do something about it. It turned out pretty well and delicious!

I also made some strawberry pie as my neighbours gave me lots of strawberries ;)

See you later,
Best
